Music plays a big role in creating the atmosphere at Brewed As, and we’re always refreshing our playlists to keep things dynamic. It’s not just about providing a great experience for our customers, but also for us, the team, who hear the music every day.

This month, I've picked a playlist from my personal collection 'Soulfood Radio', this covers everything from light liquid drum'n'bass to jazz and soulfoul harmonies, super easy listening.

What inspired you to become a barista?

I've always gravitated toward working with people, so coffee happened to be the first catalyst for that, where I could be creative and nerdy and provide an experience for people. The rest is history.

How long have you been making coffee, and what do you enjoy most about it?

This would be my fourth year. The world of coffee is a gift that keeps on giving. There's so much variety and emerging science, along with a highly passionate and nerdy sub-culture. Except we have social skills because we've all worked in hospitality, a rare kind of nerd.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Brewed As?

Easily the team. There's so much going on in terms of what we offer and there's a wealth of knowledge in each team member. I've just joined the team and they've been super welcoming and open to sharing what they know.

If you weren’t a barista, what would you be doing?

I'd say passion is a lifestyle and it transcends any type of work. There's a wealth of things to express oneself through and give to others.

What’s your go-to coffee order and why?

I play it safe usually and get a piccolo, but if I know the coffee shop does nice pour-overs, then I'm sipping on that sweet nectar any day.

Do you have a signature drink or a coffee you love making for customers?

Pour overs for the homies, lattes for the normies.

What’s a pro tip you’d share with someone brewing coffee at home?

A good grinder and a 15-minute video on dialling in espresso, and you're off to the races.

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be?

Probably singing or playing guitar. I play drums but sometimes I want some distortion and fatty riffs.

If you could have coffee with anyone, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Probably Carl Gustav Jung. He's a big inspiration as I'm studying to become a psychotherapist.

What’s your favourite way to enjoy coffee in the summer?

Flash-chilled Pour-Over.

What’s the one thing you’re most excited about this summer at Brewed As?

The fat post-work naps after making 500 coffees and the consequent dip in the ocean.

They select tunes with a message and a means to connect the dance together, and unite as one family. Expect a musical journey from the mystical to the militant and beyond.

What is Dub Music?
Wikipedia link

Dub is an electronic musical style that grew out of reggae in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is commonly considered a subgenre of reggae, though it has developed to extend beyond that style. Generally, dub consists of remixes of existing recordings created by significantly manipulating the original, usually through the removal of vocal parts, emphasis of the rhythm section (the stripped-down drum-and-bass track is sometimes referred to as a riddim), the application of studio effects such as echo and reverb, and the occasional dubbing of vocal or instrumental snippets from the original version or other works.

What are Dumplings?
Wikipedia link

Dumplings are a diverse category of dishes made from cooked dough, often filled with various ingredients like meat, vegetables, or cheese. The dough can be made from different starches, and the cooking methods range from boiling and steaming to occasionally frying or baking. The definition of a dumpling has evolved since the 17th century and varies across cultures, but it generally includes both plain and filled varieties, though some definitions exclude baked or fried items.
